Healthy Fats Products Overview

Incorporating healthy fats to your diet or replacing them as alternatives is a great step to having a healthier diet. They say that you are meant to include at least one fat after your every meal to allow for better digestion.

 

As you may or may not know, fats help for better absorption of our vitamins, coats the immune system for lubrication, is needed for healthy brain development among many other reasons. Remember fats are not the enemy, healthy fats provide a powerhouse of nutrition and is necessary for everyday living. I am going to be explaining each product and the uses of them as well.

 


They are a little costly alternatives, but the results are priceless!

I used to always eat wheat flour and sunflower oil and never felt super great. Check out this article about wheat flour. I would feel sometimes tired after meals or not really energized from the foods that I ate. This had to change and I know it had to start with my diet.

 

1. I replaced wheat flour with coconut flour and oat flour. Although it was a bit more expensive and I had to sometimes order online to ensure a good supply was had, these can be available in your local supermarkets. The benefits entailed are a feeling of achievement to working towards my goal of becoming healthier. These are gluten free, reduces inflammation in the body and rich in fibre.

 

I use coconut flour or oat flour for baking breads, cookies, cereal bars, cakes, chappatis to name a few.

2. I replaced sunflower oil and low grade oils with coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil. Great replacements! Healthy oils are very crucial to live a healthy life. They are full of omegas which is great for the skin and a great addition for the kitchen and be adored by the whole family.

 

I use these oils for cooking soups with, curries, in baking, dressing salads with and adding to smoothies. I even take a spoon of coconut oil now and then to top up nutrition content and they are great to sit in your teeth!

 

3. I would nibble on hemp seeds at least once a week and you can sprinkle on salads for a crunchy snack! It has a high concentration of Efas’s and a high content of protein. I tend to sprinkle a spoon on top of my yogurts or when making hemp milk.

 

4. I like to use coconut milk powder in moderation and it’s quite cheap, GMO free and it’s produced from freshly squeezed coconut milk. Some people use this to apply onto scalp and hair to keep it smooth and clean.

 

Here is a fantastic recipe to allow you to enjoy it:

2 spoons of coconut milk powder

1 cup of hot water

1 spoon of Honey or a dash of cinnamon powder (optional)

Stir in around 2 spoons of coconut milk powder to the hot water, you can add in a bit more milk powder for a creamier result. And enjoy! Quite a healthy alternative and can replace your usual hot beverages.

Most of these product’s are resealable which makes it so easy to use and can sit in your cupboard nicely. Most product’s comes in brown recycled packaging which are ethical and friendly to the environment.

  1. This article has opened my eyes to the importance of fat. I knew fat was essential for the body, but I never knew it has so much importance. I am, like most people, scared of fat. Well, thanks to this article I now how about healthy fat, making choices for healthy fat, and the best place to get them. Though, they are expensive, but they are worth it.

    1. Awesome and I am so pleased to hear that! There is absolutely no need to be afraid of full fat, we cannot survive without it. Be cautious of trans fats and too much of polyunsaturated is not ideal. 

  2. I have a bottle of virgin coconut oil gifted to me and was told to take a spoonful a day for health reasons. But swallowing oil just like that feels kind of gross. I tried adding into my cocoa drink, but the taste was too strong for my liking. The same goes to putting into my cereal. Are there other ways you would recommend?

    1. Thanks for your comment and a great question there!  Swallowing down some coconut oil can be strong and unpleasant to do and there are incredible ways to benefit using coconut oil. 

      You can add a spoon of coconut oil into your smoothie or juices which provides great nutrition. You can cook with coconut oil with almost any dish, from curries or stews to baking and desserts. You can even replace your usual cooking oil with coconut oil as a healthy alternative.
